Glaucoma can be treated with eye drops, tablets,
laser surgery or eye surgery. Although there is no cure, lowering the
eye pressure usually prevents further damage and loss of vision.
Eye Drops

These are the most common forms of treatment
and usually the first type
of treatment tried. It is
important to take your drop exactly as it is
prescribed.
Since drops can have side effects, your ophthalmologist
will
prescribe the one best suited to you.
Laser surgery
Laser
Trabeculoplasty (LTP) is an advanced laser technique used to treat
open-angle glaucoma. Admission to hospital is not required. In
many cases you will need to continue with your eye drops after laser.
Anesthetic eye drops are to numb your eye and there is usually little
or no discomfort.
Filtration surgery
When medication or laser surgery fails to control
your eye pressure, surgery is used to create a new channel to allow
aqueous fluid to by-pass the obstruction and drain out of the eye.
Glaucoma filtration surgery is usually performed under local anesthetic and you do not need to stay overnight.
All types of Filtration Surgery
are performed by Dr. Cano.
