Dr. David B. Cano, M.D.

Dr. Cano is a formally trained, experienced board-certified ophthalmic surgeon. He is a graduate of University of Florida where he received his B.S. in Biochemistry with High Honors and of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine where he received his M.D. He completed his Ophthalmology training at the Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland and continued with formal corneal and refractive fellowship training at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He is not only a highly skilled surgeon, adept at corneal transplant and cataract removal, but also expert in the most technologically advanced methods of laser vision correction technology and cataract surgery.  These include new blade-less laser cataract surgery as well as blade-less LASIK and PRK for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism as well as the use of the femtosecond laser for blade free cataract surgery.

Dr. Cano has been in private practice treating the community of Greater Palm Beach since 1995. He has authored numerous research articles, conducted studies, provided expert peer consultation, taught on the university level and lectured throughout the U.S. and abroad. He has been featured on Channel 12 News, honored by the Florida Society of Ophthalmology in 2000 with the “Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award,” selected as “Ophthalmologist of the Year” in 2002 by the Palm Beach County Ophthalmology Society and was awarded the James W. Clower, Jr, MD, Community Service Award by the Florida Society of Ophthalmology in 2012.

He is a past president of both the Palm Beach County and Florida Societies of Ophthalmology, serves as the current Chairman of the FOR EYE Care Foundation of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and is honored with his selection as a Councilor of the prestigious American Academy of Ophthalmology as a representative of eye surgeons in the State of Florida.

His expertise includes iLASIK (intralase laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), laser cataract surgery (femtosecond), endothelial keratoplasty, corneal transplants, pterygium surgery, and treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Cano is one of the most highly regarded physicians in our area in his field. He is listed as a “Top Doctor” in his field.
